Google Business Profile for businesses in Jordan

How to set up a Google Business Profile so you show on the map in local searches, and the twenty minutes a week that keep it working.

Map pin with a business card and five star rating

Short answer: when someone in Amman searches for a service near them, Google usually shows a map with a short list of businesses above the normal results. That list comes from Google Business Profiles. Google says it ranks them on three things, relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. You earn your place with a complete, accurate profile, a steady flow of reviews and a website that backs it up. All of it is free.

Why the map pack decides local searches

For searches like "dentist in Khalda", "car service Amman" or "aluminium workshop near me", the map is the first thing people see on a phone. From it they can call you, get directions or open your website without scrolling any further. If you are not in that short list, many searchers never see you.

Google explains its three factors on its own help pages:

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches the search. Your category, services and description do this work.
  • Distance: how far you are from the person searching, or from the area named in the search. You cannot change it, but you can make sure your map pin is in the right place.
  • Prominence: how well known your business is. Google says reviews and ratings help here, along with what it finds about you across the web.

Setting up the profile correctly

  1. Search first. Look for your business on Google Maps. If a profile already exists, claim it instead of creating a second one. Google allows one profile per location.
  2. Use your real name. Enter the name on your sign and your documents. Google does not allow taglines, service words, phone numbers or locations added to the name, and extra words can get the profile suspended.
  3. Pick as few categories as possible. The primary category should complete the sentence "this business is a". Add another only if it is also what you are, not something you happen to offer.
  4. Set the address and the pin. Write the address the way a courier would find it: building number, street and area. Then move the pin onto your actual entrance. Drivers and customers follow the pin, so check it on a phone.
  5. Hide the address if you go to the customer. If customers do not visit you, as with a maintenance company or a mobile service, set a service area and hide the address. Virtual offices and PO boxes are not allowed.
  6. Add hours, phone and website. Use a number that someone answers during the hours you list. Link to the page that matches the profile, usually the home page or a page for that branch.
  7. Verify. Google picks the method, and it can be a phone or text code, an email, a recorded video, a live video call or a postcard. Review can take up to five business days. If your website is already verified in Google Search Console, Google may verify the profile instantly.

Services, prices and photos

Services and prices

Add each service you sell as its own item, with a short description and a price in the price field. Google rejects prices and phone numbers typed into a service name, so keep the name plain. A price, even a starting price, tells the searcher you are in their range before they call.

Products

Shops can add products with a photo, a price and a short description. Link each one to its page on your website, so a tap on the profile lands on the right product.

Photos

Upload real photos of what customers buy: your products, finished work, your menu or the result of a service. Use your own photos, not stock images, and add new ones every month. A contractor with forty photos of finished jobs gives a searcher much more to go on than a logo and a map.

Description and posts

Write the description in plain words: what you do, for whom and in which areas. Do not stuff it with keywords or links. Use posts for offers, new services and events. Keep each one short, with one photo and one action.

Getting reviews the right way

Reviews are the part most businesses neglect, and the part Google names when it explains prominence. The rule is simple: ask every customer, not only the ones you expect to be happy.

How to ask

  • Copy the review link or QR code that Google provides for your profile.
  • Send the link on WhatsApp after the job or the delivery, with one line: thank you, and here is the link if you have a minute.
  • Print the QR code on the receipt, the invoice or the delivery bag.
  • Ask when the job is done, not weeks later, while the customer still remembers the details.

What Google does not allow

  • Discounts, gifts or payment in return for a review, or for changing or removing one.
  • Asking only customers you expect to be positive, or discouraging negative reviews.
  • Reviews from current or former staff, or anyone with a conflict of interest.
  • Pressuring customers to review while they are at your shop, or setting review quotas for staff.
  • Asking friends to post reviews from several accounts.

Google removes reviews that break these rules. A slow, honest flow of reviews is worth more than a burst of suspicious ones.

Reply to every review

Thank people for good reviews, by name if they used one. Answer bad ones calmly and once, with what you did to fix the problem. Your profile must be verified before you can reply, and Google checks replies before they appear.

Your website and the profile

Google ended chat on Business Profiles in July 2024. Today people reach you from the profile by calling or by opening your website. That puts weight on the page you link to: a clear list of services, prices or price ranges, a WhatsApp button, and your name, address and phone written exactly as they are on the profile.

A site that loads fast on a phone and has its Google setup done supports the profile. Every site Saree3 builds launches with that setup, covered in SEO setup at launch. For the wider picture, read the technical SEO foundation and what SEO costs in Jordan.

Weekly upkeep

Twenty minutes a week is enough for most businesses.

How oftenTask
Every weekReply to new reviews. Send the review link to the week's customers.
Every weekCheck the hours, especially around Ramadan, Eid and public holidays.
Every two weeksAdd photos of new work or new products.
Every monthPublish a post about an offer, a new service or an event.
Every monthCheck that services and prices still match what you charge, and that nobody has changed your details. Google accepts suggested edits from the public.
Every quarterSearch your main service and your area on a phone and note where you appear.

If you do not have a website yet, a landing page from 350 JOD gives the profile somewhere to send people. A full company website starts at 700 JOD. See website design in Jordan.
