Short answer
Yes. You can open a Shopify store from Jordan, sell to customers here and take orders every day. There are two limits. Shopify Payments, Shopify's own card processing, is not available to stores based in Jordan, so card payments go through a third-party gateway such as PayTabs. And on every order paid through a third-party gateway, Shopify adds its own transaction fee: 2% on the Basic plan, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced.
Cash on delivery works as a manual payment method, and Shopify does not charge that extra fee on manual payments. The rest of this guide covers what works, what it costs in dinars and when WooCommerce or a custom store is the better fit.

Payment gateways that work with Shopify in Jordan
Shopify Payments is offered in 41 countries, and Jordan is not one of them. For every other country, Shopify asks you to connect a third-party provider. Stripe, which many tutorials assume you will use, does not list Jordan either.
One gateway with a listed Shopify app is PayTabs. Its PayTabs Jordan app is free in the Shopify App Store and accepts debit and credit cards, with refunds handled from the order. You open a PayTabs merchant account first, then enter its keys in the app.
Other gateways serve Jordanian merchants too, including HyperPay, Network International and MEPS. Before you choose one for Shopify, ask the gateway for the name of its app in the Shopify App Store. If the answer is a custom workaround rather than a listed app, plan for extra cost and one more thing that can break.
Every gateway asks for the same basics: a registered business, a bank account in the business name, and a live store with prices, delivery terms, a return policy and clear contact details. Our guide to payment gateways in Jordan lists the documents and the questions to ask about fees.
How payouts work
Without Shopify Payments, Shopify never holds your sales money. The gateway collects card payments and settles them to your business bank account on its own schedule, minus its own fee. Shopify bills you separately for the plan, any paid apps and its third-party transaction fee. Ask the gateway in writing how many days settlement takes and in which currency it pays you.
Cash on delivery and local couriers
Many buyers in Jordan still pay at the door, especially on a first order from a store they do not know. On Shopify, cash on delivery is a manual payment method you switch on in the payment settings. Shopify states that it does not charge third-party transaction fees on manual payments, so a cash order costs you the plan and the courier, nothing more.
The courier is where the real cost sits. A delivery company that collects cash charges a delivery fee, often a collection fee as well, and pays you back on a cycle it sets. Get its rate card and its payment cycle in writing before launch.
Aramex publishes a shipping app in the Shopify App Store. If your local delivery company has no Shopify app, orders are passed to it by export or by hand. That works at a few orders a day and gets slow as volume grows, so ask before you choose.
Two habits cut refused deliveries: confirm each order by phone or WhatsApp before it ships, and show the delivery fee clearly before checkout. Test the checkout with an Amman address and a governorate address to make sure each one gets the fee you expect.
Shopify fees in JOD
Shopify publishes its plans in US dollars. The dinar is pegged at about 0.709 to the dollar, so the conversion stays stable. These are the prices listed on shopify.com in October 2026. Shopify can show different prices by region, so check the price on your own account before you budget.
| Plan | Per month, billed yearly | Per month, billed monthly | Extra fee on third-party card payments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 19 USD, about 13.5 JOD | 27 USD, about 19 JOD | 2% |
| Grow | 54 USD, about 38 JOD | 72 USD, about 51 JOD | 1% |
| Advanced | 299 USD, about 212 JOD | 399 USD, about 283 JOD | 0.6% |
A worked example
Say your store takes 3,000 JOD a month in card payments through a gateway. On Basic, Shopify's 2% fee is 60 JOD that month. On Grow it is 30 JOD, but the plan costs about 25 JOD more per month on yearly billing. Grow starts to pay for itself at about 2,500 JOD of card sales a month. Below that, Basic is cheaper. Cash on delivery orders do not count toward this, because manual payments carry no Shopify transaction fee.
On top of the plan, budget for:
- The gateway's own fee on each card payment. Jordanian gateways do not publish full rate cards, so ask for a written offer.
- A paid theme, if you want one. Free themes are available.
- Paid apps for things like reviews, product options or translations. Many bill monthly in dollars.
- A domain, about 10 to 20 USD a year for a .com.
- Setup. Saree3 builds Shopify stores from 500 JOD, with payments and delivery tested before launch.
Arabic themes on Shopify
Shopify stores can show Arabic, and themes can be translated. How well a layout works right to left depends on the theme. Menus, sliders, product galleries and form fields are where problems usually show. Before you buy a theme, check that its listing names right-to-left support, then open its demo in Arabic on a phone and add a product to the cart.
When WooCommerce or custom fits better
Shopify is a good choice for a small or medium catalogue, a team without a developer and an owner who wants one hosted dashboard. It is not the cheapest or the most flexible option in every case.
WooCommerce
WooCommerce runs on WordPress on your own hosting. There is no platform subscription and no Shopify transaction fee, and gateways such as Network International publish a WooCommerce extension. You pay for hosting and take on updates and backups, or pay someone to. Saree3 builds WooCommerce stores from 700 JOD.
A custom store
A custom store fits large catalogues, products sold in several sizes each with its own item code and price, wholesale and retail pricing, or a link to an inventory or accounting system. The CHI Jordan store is one example: a custom storefront on top of a WooCommerce engine, with delivery fees by region and a dashboard the team runs themselves. Custom stores start at 1,200 JOD.
If your business has to issue e-invoices through JoFotara, ask how each platform will handle it before you choose. On a custom store the connection can be built in. Our JoFotara e-invoicing guide explains what is required, and JoFotara integration covers the build.
The side by side comparison is in Shopify, WooCommerce or custom, and the full price breakdown is in how much an online store costs in Jordan.
