Do I need a website if I have Instagram?

What Instagram and Facebook do well for a business in Jordan, what they cannot do, and the signs that it is time to add a website of your own.

A social media feed on a phone connected to a full website on a laptop

Short answer: Instagram is where many people in Jordan discover a business. A website is where they check it, find it on Google, and buy without waiting for a reply. For a small home business that sells through messages, Instagram plus a Google Business Profile can be enough for a while. Once people search for what you sell, once you sell to companies, run ads or want online payments, a website starts paying for itself. It is rarely one or the other. Each does a job the other cannot.

What Instagram and Facebook do well

  • Discovery. People who never searched for you see your posts, reels and ads.
  • Showing the product. Photos and short videos sell food, fashion, beauty and interiors better than text.
  • Conversation. Questions arrive in messages and become orders, often within minutes.
  • A free start. You can open an account today and post tonight.
  • Targeted ads. You can reach people by area, age and interest with a small budget.

None of this goes away when you add a website. The question is what social media cannot do on its own.

What social media cannot do

Bring you Google searches

When someone in Amman searches Google for a service near them, Google usually shows its map with Business Profiles, then websites. Instagram posts rarely appear for those searches. A website with a page for each service, together with a complete Google Business Profile, is how you show up when people are ready to buy and are looking.

Belong to you

Your account lives on someone else's platform, under their rules. Accounts get hacked, disabled by mistake or limited, and reach changes when the platform changes how it shows posts. Your followers are not a list you can take with you. A website on a domain in your name, with your customer enquiries in your own inbox, is the part of your online presence you control.

Keep information easy to find

Prices, sizes, opening hours, delivery areas and return rules get buried in old posts and highlights. Customers ask the same questions again and again, and some leave when the answer is "price in DM". A website puts each answer on a page anyone can open, and your team stops repeating it.

Take payment

In Jordan, Instagram and Facebook do not take card payments for your shop inside the app. The sale moves to a bank transfer, cash on delivery or a payment link sent in a message. An online store lets a buyer choose, pay by card or cash on delivery and get a confirmation, even at midnight when nobody is answering messages. Our guide to opening an online store in Jordan walks through the steps.

Win company buyers

Companies, tenders, distributors and buyers from the Gulf usually check your website and your email address before they reply. A business that has only an Instagram account looks small to them, even when it is not.

Measure your ads properly

Ads that send people to messages measure conversations. Ads that send people to a website with the Meta pixel installed can measure enquiries and purchases, so you can see which ad brings sales and stop paying for the ones that do not.

What about TikTok and WhatsApp?

The same logic applies to TikTok. It is a strong place to be discovered, and a weak place to keep your prices, policies and orders. WhatsApp is different: it is where many sales in Jordan are closed. A WhatsApp Business account with a catalogue and quick replies helps, and a website makes it better. Each WhatsApp button on your site can open a message that already names the page or product the customer was reading, so you know what they want before you reply.

When Instagram alone is enough

  • You run a home business or make products to order, and you can answer every message yourself.
  • Your catalogue is small and changes every week.
  • Most customers come from people who already know you.
  • You are testing an idea before you spend on it.

Even then, set up a free Google Business Profile so you appear on the map, use a WhatsApp Business catalogue for your main products, and register your business name as a domain before someone else does.

Signs you need a website now

  • You answer the same questions in messages every day.
  • People search Google for your business name or your service, and find nothing of yours.
  • You sell to companies, or you want to.
  • You spend money on ads and cannot tell which ones bring sales.
  • You want customers to pay by card without a conversation first.
  • You have lost an account before, or you would lose your business if you lost this one.
  • You are opening a second branch or selling outside Jordan.

What your first website should be

You do not need a large site to start. Pick the smallest one that does the job.

Your situationA good first websitePrice at Saree3
One main service or product, mostly enquiriesA landing page with your offer, prices or price ranges, photos and a WhatsApp buttonFrom 350 JOD, 3 to 5 working days
Several services or a team, local searches matterA company website with a page per serviceFrom 700 JOD, 2 to 4 weeks
You sell products and want online paymentAn online storeFrom 500 JOD on a platform, from 1,200 JOD custom

Domain and hosting are paid to the provider directly, usually 40 to 150 JOD a year for a business site. Our guide to website costs in Jordan explains what each price should include. If you want to build it yourself on a website builder first, read builder or custom website before you choose.

What a website holds that a profile cannot

  • A page for each service or product, with the full details and the price or a starting price.
  • Delivery areas, return rules and payment options, written once and linked from every message.
  • Answers to the questions customers ask every week.
  • Your address, map, opening hours and branches, in a form Google can read.
  • Work you have done, with real photos and the details behind each one.

These are the pages that answer Google searches, and the pages your team can send instead of typing the same reply again.

How the two work together

  • The link in your Instagram bio opens a page on your website that loads fast, not a list of links.
  • Posts about a product point to that product's page, where the price and the order button are.
  • Your Google Business Profile links to your website, and your website shows your Instagram.
  • Every page on the website has a WhatsApp button, so people who like to talk still can.
  • Prices and opening hours are the same everywhere. Update the website first, then the posts.

Who keeps it up to date

A website helps only while it is current. Ask for a site your own team can edit, so a new price or product goes live the same day it goes on Instagram. Every site we build comes with 30 days of fixes and help after launch, and care plans from 80 JOD a month cover backups, security updates and content changes.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A website that only copies your Instagram grid and says nothing new.
  • Hiding prices on the website too. If you cannot publish exact prices, publish a range or a starting price.
  • A domain registered in the designer's name instead of yours.
  • Launching the site and never updating it, so Google and customers see last year's offers.

Instagram builds attention. A website turns that attention into searches, orders and buyers you keep, on a platform that belongs to you.

Questions

Is a Facebook page enough for a small business in Jordan?

For a small business that sells by messages to people who already know it, it can be for a while. Once people search Google for what you sell, or you want online payments, add a website and a Google Business Profile.

Can I sell online in Jordan without a website?

Yes, through messages, transfers, cash on delivery and payment links. A website or online store adds card payment, a full catalogue and orders that arrive while you sleep.

How much does a simple website cost in Jordan?

At Saree3 a landing page starts from 350 JOD and a company website from 700 JOD. Domain and hosting usually cost 40 to 150 JOD a year.

Will my website show on Google automatically?

Not on its own. It needs a page per service, a clear title on each page, Search Console set up and a Google Business Profile that links to it.

Should my Instagram bio link go to my website or to WhatsApp?

To a fast page on your website, with a WhatsApp button on it. People who want to read can read, and people who want to talk are one tap away.
